Peter Lindsay from Arbroath

Peter Lindsay was a basket-maker who came from Arbroath. His work has a unique signature, in that he steam bends his frames and laminates them from sawn wood. This technique would probably have been done in a boatyard. This feature is mainly seen in his grtline baskets or sculls, but also occasionally in rips. The grtline baskets in particular can be seen in many museum collections, including Arbroath Signal Tower, The National Museum of Scotland, and The Scottish Fisheries Museum in Anstruther. They are not always identified as his, but they are almost unmistakable. They were featured in the 1951 Festival of Britain.
